Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if therapy is right for me or my family?

Deciding whether therapy is right for you or your family can be a deeply personal decision, and there's no one-size-fits-all answer. However, here are some factors to consider that may help guide your decision:

  1. Symptoms or Concerns: Are you or your family members experiencing symptoms of distress, such as persistent sadness, anxiety, anger, or behavioral issues? Have you noticed difficulties in relationships, work, school, or other areas of life?

  2. Impact on Daily Functioning: Are the symptoms or concerns significantly impacting your or your family's ability to function on a day-to-day basis? Are you finding it challenging to cope with stressors or manage daily responsibilities?

  3. Support System: Have you tried to address the issues on your own or with the support of friends, family, or other resources? Are you feeling overwhelmed or stuck despite these efforts?

  4. Readiness for Change: Are you or your family members open to exploring new perspectives, learning coping skills, and making changes to improve well-being? Are you willing to commit time and effort to participate in therapy sessions regularly?

  5. Goals and Expectations: What are your or your family's goals for therapy? Are you seeking symptom relief, personal growth, improved relationships, or specific behavioral changes? Do you have realistic expectations about what therapy can offer?

  6. Cultural and Personal Values: Are you comfortable with the idea of seeking support from a mental health professional? Do you feel that therapy aligns with your cultural or personal beliefs about seeking help?

  7. Financial and Logistical Considerations: Are you able to afford therapy sessions, either through insurance coverage, out-of-pocket expenses, or sliding-scale fees? Do you have the time and means to attend therapy appointments regularly?

Ultimately, the decision to pursue therapy should be based on your individual or family's unique needs, preferences, and circumstances. I would be happy to talk more. Please feel free to call 301-485-6567 to schedule a free 20-minute consultation.

How much will therapy cost?

Poriya Therapeutic Services, LLC operates as a private-pay therapy practice, where clients cover the full session fee at the time of service. I do not currently participate in any insurance panels. However, if you're interested in seeking Out-of-Network (OON) reimbursements from your insurance provider, I am more than happy to offer you a Superbill. Many clients who have OON benefits have been able to reclaim between 30% and 90% of their session costs from their insurance. If you have any questions or need assistance with this process, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Are sessions in person or virtual?

Sessions with adults and groups are typically held virtually, though options for in-person sessions are available on Wednesdays (Kensington, MD) and Thursdays (Takoma Park, MD). Treatment involving young children is recommended to be in person.

Due to state licensing regulations, teletherapy sessions can only be conducted with clients physically located in Maryland or the District of Columbia at the time of their teletherapy session.
